HISTORY
Eleone Dance Theatre, a nonprofit corporation incorporated in 1995, is co-directed by Mr. Shawn-Lamere Williams, Artistic Director, and Ms. Sheila A. Ward, Executive Director. The company was founded by E. Leon Evans, II. Eleone Dance Theatre can be enjoyed throughout the year in a Spring Repertory Concert, its annual Christmas production “Carols in Color,” and our newest offering, “From These Roots,” a historical journey through dance highlighting the emergence of African-Americans.
Eleone Dance Theatre has received funding from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Philadelphia Cultural Fund, The Philadelphia Foundation and the Pew funded Dance Advance Grant administered by The University of the Arts. Additionally, we have received awards from the A.K.A. Sorority and citations and tribute from the City of Philadelphia.
The company has performed choreography by New York choreographer and master Horton teacher, Milton Myers, Abdel R. Salaam (Forces of Nature), Resident Choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans, Rehearsal Director Dara Stevens-Meredith, Christopher L. Huggins, Brian Sanders, Wayne St. David, Molly Misgalla, Corie Baker, Gary Jeter, Anthony Burrell, Abdur-Rahim Jackson, Katherine Dunham and Diane McIntyre.
NATIONAL PERFORMANCES & COLLABORATIONS
Eleone Dance Theatre has performed throughout the states of California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Eleone actively seeks collaborations and has forged relationships and performing opportunities with organizations and institutions such as the Christina Cultural Arts Center (Wilmington, DE), Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center (Glen Allen, VA), The Willingboro Kennedy Performing Arts Center (Willingboro, NJ), Hampton University (Hampton, VA), Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA), William Meredith School, The High School For The Creative and Performing Arts, Celestial Choir of Bright Hope Baptist Church, New Freedom Theatre, Black Women in Sport Foundation (All of Philadelphia, PA) and Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (Philadelphia/ Delaware Valley Chapter) among many others. Principle dancers have choreographed and taught master classes at Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Virginia State University, Old Dominion University and Cheyney University, to name a few.

Eleone dancers provide not just a dance performance, but a dance “experience” that inspires and energizes audiences of all ages. The company has a diverse repertoire of works that are contemporary modern, spiritual, rhythm and blues, African as well as hip-hop in theme.
